Location
The Mittelrhein wine region is located mainly in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate (Rheinland-Pfalz) with a little part stretching into the state of North Rhine-Westphalia (Nordrhein-Westfalen). It runs 72 miles (120 km) on both sides of the Rhine River between the cities of Bingen and Bonn.

775,840 gallons (29,370 hectoliters) of wine are produced annually in the Mittelrhein region (46.7% Prädikatswein; 51.9% Qualitätswein bestimmter Anbaugebiete, 1.4% Tafelwein). This accounts for 0.3% of the volume from Germany's entire wine region.
 
 
Climate & Geography
The Mittelrhein wine region has ideal conditions for grapes to thrive. Grapevines are planted primarily on split-level, steep hillsides to get maximum exposure to sunlight. The Rhine River keeps temperatures stable, keeping the region not-too-cold and not-too-hot.

The most important grape to the Mittelrhein region is by far the Riesling. Other important grapes include:
